My Space

I tried checking out facebook and my space tonight. I couldn't get into facebook but I did browse through my space and I noticed that almost all of pages that came up using the browse feature were pages from females members. Why do you think that was? I'd love to find out the statistics on male vs. female use. I think many people put way too much information about themselves on a lot of the pages and that worries me. I also came across some that were really provocative and offensive and I really don't like that it is readily accessible. Is facebook about the same?

I did a general search on myspace and the search mostly generated female pics too. Out of the 40 thumbnail pics shown, there were 10 that had "provocative" pics: 1/4!!!I know that some people post images they find on google and use those images as their "myspace" image. In other words, they are not posting their REAL picture. However,I don't think it matters. The subject matter that you post on your profile says a lot about YOU. I saw profiles with names like Judie Juggs, i'm Not a Playa, and I'm finally 16... While these types of screen names may be 'inside jokes' between the person posting to a profile and his/her friends, people need to realize that this site is accessible by the public. Randomly, I went to one person's profile. She gave her first name, school name, grade level, & birthday. It disturbs me that people are not more careful when posting online. Webpages, profiles, and chatrooms are all fun and can be useful...but they can also be dangerous. I sound like one of those "The More You Know" commercials but, really, some people are quite naive. ...and some have the information they need and have been forewarned- they're just ignorant.
